Binding slightly rubbed and slightly stained, otherwise in very good condition. Photos in pristine condition. This is a privately compilled album, probably by a young man who took this trip. The Rio Panuco ship was built in Kiel, in 1924, by Germaniawerft. Rio Panuco and Rio Bravo were the first German ships built for the West India service of the Ozean-Dampfer AG. The ship was engaged in trading between Germany and Central America until 1931 when the company went bankrupt during the Great Depression and was sold off to the Bremen shipping company NDL (Norddeutscher Lloyd). NDL changed its name to MV Neptuna. The ship operated on the Australia, New Guinea, Philippines, Hong Kong, and Saigon (present-day Ho Chi Minh City) service. Rio Panuco, later MV Neptuna, was sunk in the Japanese air raid on Darwin in 1942, during WWII, when several bombs exploded on board, killing a large part of the crew, and completely destroying the ship. This very interesting photo album tells the photographic story of an one-year voyage abord one of the first German ships engaged in commercial trading with the West Indies. Probably the most compelling aspect of this album is the fact that it brings together photographic reports not only of the ship itself, but also of various ports in the West Indies (Havana, Veracruz), of sightseeing attractions (in the city of Mexico itself, but also of Aztec empire heritage sites), as well as unique photos of the indigenous populations in Mexico, and photos of several examples of Mexico's flora. Some of the later photos in this album were taken on board of another NDL ship, the “Werra”. The album includes photographs of: The Needles bay, Abaco Islands, port of Havana, El Capitolio in Havana, Veracruz, various parks, monuments and churches (Convento de San Jerónimo; an old convent in Azcapotzalco) in Mexico, Independence Day celebrations in Mexico City with marching bands, views from Irapuato, Azcapotzalco, the pyramids and sites at Teotihuacan, Cuernavaca, Xochimilco, Popocatépetl, Iztaccihuatl, Desierto de los Leones, Cholula, Pachuca, El Chico, the settlements of indigenous population and various photos of the natives. The trip ends in Tenerife, where photos are taken of the city of Santa Cruz, camels, the port of Vigo (where the trip to Tenerife perhaps started), and photos of the passengers on board of both ships (Rio Panuco and Werra). ---- 92 Fotos + 4 lose Fotos (bereits im Album enthalten). Dies ist ein privat zusammengestelltes Album, wahrscheinlich von einem jungen Mann, der diese Reise unternommen hat. Das Schiff Rio Panuco wurde 1924 von der Germaniawerft in Kiel gebaut. Rio Panuco und Rio Bravo waren die ersten deutschen Schiffe, die für den Westindiendienst der Ozean-Dämpfer AG gebaut wurden. Das Schiff war bis 1931 im Handel zwischen Deutschland und Mittelamerika im Einsatz, als die Reederei während der Weltwirtschaftskrise bankrott ging und an die Bremer Reederei NDL (Norddeutscher Lloyd) verkauft wurde. NDL änderte seinen Namen in MV Neptuna. Das Schiff verkehrte im Dienst von Australien, Neuguinea, den Philippinen, Hongkong und Saigon (dem heutigen Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt). Rio Panuco, später MV Neptuna, wurde 1942 während des Zweiten Weltkriegs beim japanischen Luftangriff auf Darwin versenkt, als mehrere Bomben an Bord explodierten, einen großen Teil der Besatzung töteten und das Schiff vollständig zerstörten. Dieses sehr interessante Fotoalbum erzählt die fotografische Geschichte einer einjährigen Reise (1930-1931) an Bord eines der ersten deutschen Schiffe im Handelsverkehr mit Westindien. Der wohl überzeugendste Aspekt dieses Albums ist die Tatsache, dass es fotografische Berichte nicht nur vom Schiff selbst, sondern auch von verschiedenen Häfen in Westindien (Havanna, Veracruz), von Sehenswürdigkeiten (in der Stadt Mexiko selbst, aber auch von Stätten des Erbes des Aztekenreichs) sowie einzigartige Fotos der indigenen Bevölkerung Mexikos und Fotos von mehreren Beispielen der mexikanischen Flora. Einige der späteren Fotos in diesem Album wurden an Bord eines anderen NDL-Schiffes, der „Werra“, aufgenommen. Das Album enthält Fotos von: The Needles Bay, Abaco Islands, Hafen von Havanna, El Capitolio in Havanna, Veracruz, verschiedene Parks, Denkmäler und Kirchen (Convento de San Jerónimo; ein altes Kloster in Azcapotzalco) in Mexiko, Feierlichkeiten zum Unabhängigkeitstag in Mexiko-Stadt mit Blaskapellen, Ausblicke von Irapuato, Azcapotzalco, die Pyramiden und Stätten von Teotihuacan, Cuernavaca , Xochimilco, Popocatépetl, Iztaccihuatl, Desierto de los Leones, Cholula, Pachuca, El Chico, die Siedlungen der indigenen Bevölkerung und verschiedene Fotos der Ureinwohner. Die Reise endet auf Teneriffa, wo Fotos von der Stadt Santa Cruz, Kamelen, dem Hafen von Vigo (wo die Reise nach Teneriffa vielleicht begann) und Fotos von den Passagieren an Bord beider Schiffe (Rio Panuco und Werra) gemacht werden.
