XI, List of plates, map and charts, 506 pages (with 35 of the 37 plates, maps and charts), LXXV appendix-pages. Der Einband ist am vorderen Außengelenk oben ca. 4 cm aufgeplatzt. Die Deckel sind leicht berieben und fleckig. Beim hinteren Deckel hat sich an manchen Stellen die Farbe vom Bezugsleinen gelöst (event. auf Silberfische zurückzuführen).Der Buchblock und die Bindung sind stabil und die Seiten sind insgesamt in einem guten Zustand. Manche Tafeln sind an den Rändern leicht stockfleckig. Die ausklappbare Tafel "General chart of the East Coast of Africa" hat leider einen ca. 6 cm langen Riss. Die Tafeln "General map of Abyssinia" und "The chart of Annesley Bay" fehlen leider. Es handelt sich insgesamt um ein schönes Exemplar. Henry Salt (* 14. Juni 1780 in Lichfield; † 30. Oktober 1827 in Desouk bei Alexandria) war ein englischer Künstler, Reisender, Diplomat und Ägyptologe. Auf einer Mission für die Regierung kehrte Salt 1809 nach Äthiopien zurück. Seine Aufgabe war es herauszufinden, welche diplomatischen und Handelsbeziehungen zwischen den Tigraianern und dem Kriegsherren (Warlord) Ras Wolde Selassie bestehen. Nach seiner Rückkehr veröffentlichte er: A voyage to Abyssinia, & travels into the interior of that country, executed under the orders of the British government in the years 1809 & 1810. // Large format half-leather-binding. The covers are a little stained. On the backside there are a few patches where the cloth lost it's colour. The front joint is cracked on top for about 4 cm. The bookblock and the binding a firm. The pages are in good condition. Some of the plates are a little foxed on the edges. The fold out plate "General chart of the East Coast of Africa" is rippet for about 6 cm .The plates "General map of Abyssinia" and "The chart of Annesley Bay" are missing. In general the book is in a clean and good condition. Book from a non smoking environment. Henry Salt (14 June 1780 – 30 October 1827) was an English artist, traveller, collector of antiquities, diplomat, and Egyptologist. Salt went to Ethiopia in 1809 on a government mission to develop trade and diplomatic links with the Ethiopian Emperor Egwale Seyon. Upon arrival, he was unable to meet with the king due to unrest in the country, so instead he went to stay with his friend the Ras Wolde Selassie. During this venture, Salt took on the side mission of verifying and correcting the information about the region reported by the Scottish traveler, James Bruce many years earlier. Salt came back to England in 1811 with numerous specimens of both plants and animals. Most notable was a species of dik-dik that was previously unknown to the people of England. He would go on to publish in 1814, A voyage to Abyssinia, and travels into the interior of that country, executed under the orders of the British government in the years 1809 & 1810, whose contents were on the culture, geography, customs, and topography of Ethiopia.
