Tony Ward

Tony ward, PhD, DipClinPsyc, is a clinical psychologist by trainingand has been working in the clinical and forensic field since 1987.He was formerly Director of the Kia Marama Sexual Offenders' Unitat Rolleston Prison in New Zealand, and has taught both clinicaland forensic psychology at Victoria, Canterbury, and MelbourneUniversities. He is currently the Director of Clinical Training atVictoria University of Wellington. Professor Ward's researchinterests fall into five main areas: rehabilitation models andissues; cognition and sex offenders; the problem behavior processin offenders; the implications of naturalism for theoryconstruction and clinical practice; and assessment and caseformulation in clinical construction and clinical practice; andassessment and case formulation in clinical psychology. He haspublished over 110 research articles, chapters and books. Theseinclude Remaking Relapse Prevention, with D.R. Laws and S.M. Anthony Beech, DPhil, BSc, is professor in criminologicalpsychology in the School of Psychology at the University ofBirmingham and a Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Overthe last 10 years he has been the lead researcher of the STEP (SexOffender Treatment Evaluation Project) team. Here he has beeninvolved in treatment evaluation and the development of systems tolook at treatment need and treatment change in sex offenders. thiswork is regarded as having a major influence on assessment andtreatment in the UK. he has written widely on the topi8cs ofassessment and treatment of sexual offenders, and other relatedsubjects.
