Citizens who do come together, form associations. There are many types of associations in a liberal-democratic society. Each type of association that citizens form through their own volition relates to a specific type of resource or resources which it uses. These resources may consist of a particular ideology, a material resource, an opportunity, such as, the demand for a particular product or service etc. Each type of voluntary association has a specific audience to which it relates. The audience is usually defined by the ideology of the association and usually consists of a specific social or economic category such as consumers, partners engaged in a particular occupation or trade, persons sharing a specific ideology or interest, refugees, ethnic minorities, the poor, those affected by a specific disaster etc. Every association has a particular type of leadership consisting of those who have controlling power over the association. The leadership has the function of articulating the problem or interest around which the association is formed and the need to resolve the problem or organise the activities in a particular way and relate the activities to the philosophy of the association. Every type of association also obtains authority for its functioning. Different types of associations obtain their legal authority in a variety of ways that are reflected in the different possibilities that exist in any society for the registration of voluntary associations. Authority provides protection and certain kinds of concessions, usually of a financial and legal nature. Obtaining authority to function also means that voluntary associations commit themselves to specific obligations in matters relating to staff, finances etc. In a liberal-democratic society, people get together to form locality associations, which are based on the premise of living in a specific geographical location. Such associations may later branch out into various activities. Associations are formed around trades or professions. These consist of trade unions and associations of professionals. People form associations around political interests and political ideologies - political parties, and political clubs being some of these. Associations are formed around religious and spiritual activities, around sports and recreational activities etc. People also get together and form associations around commercial and business interests. Exporters Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Institutions for Business Promotion, Associations of Industrialists in different sectors of production etc., are some of these. - - - Bestell-Nr.: 1037509
